About this journal
The full story, in our own words
A 140-day devotional journal for the teacher whose spirit runs thinner than her lesson plan — a daily place to rest, reflect, and be renewed in God before the next bell.
For School Teachers — Finding Rest in God. Each day sits beside a quoted line from a Christian writer across the centuries — kept in their own voice, with a quiet word-gloss underneath so the older language opens rather than closes.
- A daily page for the teacher who is almost empty by three o'clock.
- Five honest minutes a day — between the bell and whatever comes next.
- For the teacher whose soul needs just as much care as the class list.
Seven stages across 140 days: Stage 1 — Starting to See Him · Stage 2 — Softly Letting Go Before Him · Stage 3 — Choosing to Be Faithful — Quietly · Stage 4 — He Does Not Let Go · Stage 5 — Known by God · Stage 6 — Serving Where He Places You · Stage 7 — Completely Near to Him.
A visual journey across seven simple images — dawn, open hands, a lamp, a mountain, a vine, a stream, and an open door. One image per stage. You will recognise them when you meet them.
Inside these pages you will also find:
- Seven things on every day's page — an Opening line. A Reflect question. A Rest cue for the body. A Today's Focus. A Touch line. A quoted Scripture or Christian writer with a word-gloss. A closing Meditation. The same seven elements, every day, for 140 days.
- Older language, opened in real time — thy becomes your. Thee becomes you. Every classic line — Scripture in older translation, devotional prose from earlier centuries — carries a small plain-English gloss directly underneath. Nothing is left for the reader to puzzle out.
- Real names, never anonymous — every quoted line is attributed — drawn from a curated corpus of Christian writers across the centuries and chosen to fit each journal's shape. The voices are named, the sources are known, and the corpus is wider than any single tradition.
- Liturgical interludes between stages — between the seven sections, the journal slows. A Commentary. A Poem. A Prayer for This Season. A closing Reflection. Real rhythm — not page numbers.
- Borrowed prayers, and yours — selected prayers from saints and faithful authors carry you forward, while A Prayer for This Season pages hold space for the words that are only yours to write.
- One poem per section — short, unhurried passages between stages — small enough to memorise, deep enough to keep returning to.
Sample prompt: "What did you give today that nobody thanked you for? Thank yourself here. Let God too."
Most journals quote older Scripture and hope you understand it. This one opens every older line underneath, in plain English, every time.
You know the Sunday evening dread, and the particular weight of knowing twenty-eight small humans are about to need everything from you again tomorrow? Underneath is a quieter question — about whether the calling that brought you here is still the calling, or whether something in you has quietly run out. This journal sits with that quieter question. Five honest minutes a day, before the bell or after the marking. The work does not get less work. But the why begins to settle back underneath the what, and the classroom becomes again the place you were meant to be.
A daily page for the teacher who is almost empty by three o'clock. Written for the teacher whose soul needs as much care as the class list. Open to day one.
What’s inside every day
Same daily rhythm, 140 days. One steady shape you learn once.
How it will feel
Let the feet be still. Hope lives in the small moment a student understood. The teacher you are becoming will change lives in ways you will not know. The God who gave you this calling will equip you for it. Tomorrow's adults are being shaped in your room today. The journal is a place to rest, not work. Slow rest is deep rest — the body needs more than the quick pause the mind thinks would be enough. You were not made for unceasing labor. Peace for the one who has forgotten how to rest.
You start the day with one clear thing in mind. You stop bracing for the next thing before it has happened. Your day has a shape you can move inside. You say no without rehearsing it. You finish the conversation you have been avoiding. The shape of your day can quietly change you.
Built to form you — not just inspire you
Not Inspiration — Formation
This is not a devotional to read when inspired — it is a daily practice to return to regardless. Real faith is built through structured daily formation, not occasional motivation. Finishing this journal produces something that starting ten others cannot.
What This Journal Returns You To
- You are not the only adult in their lives — and were never meant to be
- Let go of the parents' expectations you cannot meet
- Rest is an act of trust — the lying down says God is enough for the day that goes on without you
Sample prompt: "What you are building matters more than the test scores"
A thoughtful gift
What this journal offers a friend is presence, not pressure. 140 days of gentle company that does not require them to be ready, only willing — the rare kind of gift that holds space rather than fills it. You chose this work because something in you knew it mattered — God put that knowing there. Go rest. The classroom will be there tomorrow. So will He.

Hayley Louisa Mark is the pen name under which Stilling Waves Press writes its reflective journals. The voice is quiet on purpose: these pages draw on Scripture and the older contemplative writers — Andrew Murray, François Fénelon, Thomas à Kempis — slowly read and set into a 140-day daily practice. Sixty-six journals share the same method: five honest minutes a day, one season at a time.
Published by Stilling Waves Press, creator of the 140-Day Reflective Devotional Series. Our journals are designed to be completed, not merely read — combining Scripture, reflection, and guided writing into a daily spiritual practice.
